Duke Tower Hotel and the DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center)

The New Durham Performing Arts Center

The New Durham Performing Arts Center

We are excited and pleased that the new Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) has opened in downtown Durham. This spectacular building, the largest performing art space in North Carolina, will host some great shows and performers in the next year. These include:

  • Harry Connick Jr.
  • Jim Brickman and The North Carolina Symphony
  • Diving Performing Arts
  • NBC’s Last Comic Standing! Live On Tour
  • Rent
  • Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy
  • Rickey Smiley
  • Aaron Lewis of Staind
  • Anthony Bourdain
  • Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel
  • The Temptations & The Four Tops
  • Jesus Christ Superstar
  • Robin Williams’ Weapons of Self-Destruction Comedy Tour
  • George Lopez
  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • 70’s Soul Jam
  • Bill Cosby
  • John Prine
  • David Sedaris
  • Legally Blonde the Musical
  • Oprah Winfrey’s The Color Purple

This list is quite amazing and has performers and shows that will appeal to many different tastes. The DPAC will host some of the most exciting and diverse live events in the region–Broadway shows, superstar concerts and fun performances for families and young audiences.

Every community needs a great place to gather and the DPAC will provide that space downtown. The DPAC will contribute significantly to the continued revival of downtown Durham. Not only will it bring more people downtown, but we predict the impressive architecture will become a symbol of a new, modern downtown. As part of the Historic American Tobacco Campus and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the DPAC will contribute to a synergy of economic development and enhance the quality of life in Durham.

Duke Tower is on the edge of downtown and next to the urban, upscale Trinity Park neighborhood. We feel that we are part of and benefit from this revival. We are happy to be part of the downtown Durham ecosystem and we hope we can contribute positively by supporting the DPAC.

As a hotel near the DPAC, Duke Tower will provide a free shuttle service to and from the DPAC performances for our guests. Our hotel is only about one mile from the DPAC (see a map from Duke Tower Hotel to the DPAC here), it is no problem at all for us to take guests back and forth.

Some of the Broadway shows on tour coming to the DPAC will be staying at Duke Tower Hotel during their time in Durham, having already made reservations with us. We look forward to hosting those groups and feeling a bit of that Broadway glamor on our property. We predict that they will be having breakfast in our Historic Tower Cafe and probably drinking a lot of our gourmet coffee after their late nights. (We may have to extend breakfast hours for the performers, but that will be our pleasure.)

We will strive to be the preferred hotel for the DPAC and the choice for visitors to the DPAC. If you are planning on coming to Durham for a performance and would like to know the best place to stay for the night, look no further than Duke Tower Hotel.

We welcome all DPAC guests and performers to Duke Tower. We’re dedicated to world class hospitality. We are sure your stay with us and in Durham will be comfortable, enjoyable and, with the DPAC performances, leave you with memories of a lifetime.
